The Tackle The Lakes LAKE ISTOKPOGA is located in Highlands County, Florida and is the fifth largest lake with a surface area of 27, 692 acres. It has a 15-24" slot limit which keeps the lake loaded with big bass. Lake Istokpoga also offers excellent crappie and bluegill fishing. LAKE WEOHYAKAPKA (AKA Lake Walk-in-Water) is located in Polk County, Florida between Yee Haw Junction and Lake Wales. This lake is 7500 acres and is covered with Hydrilla, which makes it a Bass Factory!! A great lake for big bass and also high numbers of bass! LAKE OKEECHOBEE is located in South Central Florida. Okeechobee, which is Seminole for "Big Water" cover 730 quare miles and is the second largest lake in the United States.The lake is shallow and provides ideal forage and habitat for bass. Anglers do well fishing in bulrush near Eagle Bay Island, Little Grassy Island and King’s Bar at the north end of the lake. At the south end, anglers are effective fishing in eelgrass in the South Bay area. Lake Okeechobee has a 13- to 18-inch slot limit on bass, meaning all bass between 13 and 18 inches must be re-leased unharmed. Sixteen boat ramps and numerous fish camps surround the lake. LAKE PLACID is located in Highlands County 100 miles south of Orlando. Lake Placid covers 3320 acres and has an average depth of 22.7 feet. Lake Placid is a large, deep, sandy bottomed 'ridge' type lake. Because of the deeper water depths, this lake offers excellent summertime fishing. LAKE JUNE is located in Highlands County 100 miles south of Orlando. Lake June is a large, deep, sandy-bottomed, clear freshwater lake. It is the second largest lake in Highlands County at over 3,500 acres and is the county's largest ridge lake. Just as with Lake Placid, Lake June offers excellent summertime fishing because of the deeper water depths. |
